Amoeba Music San Francisco, May 13th, at 2:00 Local Time
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee Todd Rundgren will be embarking on the world’s first hybrid concert/book tour this spring, highlighting both his hits as well as “deep tracks” spanning his 50-year career. Live Nation has announced the details of the tour, presented by SiriusXM, which will include shows in North America, the UK, Europe, and Japan with book signing at Amoeba Music in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
In conjunction with the concert tour, Todd will also be adding book events for his new book, The Individualist: digressions, dreams and dissertations released in December.
Rundgren’s long-awaited autobiography, The Individualist: digressions, dreams and dissertations, was released by Cleopatra Press, documenting his life through his 50th birthday. The concert set list will mirror that time period, consisting of song selections from the inception of his musical career through 1996, with intros & stories behind the songs and Rundgren’s impressive career.
At home after a solid year of touring, Todd has spent several weeks selecting the songs he will be performing and designing the look and feel of the show for his upcoming “Individualist Tour” scheduled for this coming spring. In a unique fashion, the tour will incorporate a book event-tour style audience Q&A into the concerts.
In his first ever autobiography reflecting on both his phenomenal career as well as his rollercoaster of a personal life with pages of recollections, structured into bite-sized single-page three-paragraph chapters, about encounters with rock royalty including Janis Joplin, Brian Wilson, Ringo Starr, Patti Smith, The NY Dolls, and Meat Loaf along with numerous photos never before published.
Rundgren explains the unique format of each chapter as follows, “[paragraph #1] a recollection of something that I witnessed, [paragraph #2] a subjective assessment of my state of mind in either experiencing or remembering the episode (or a haphazard combination of both), and as in this 3rd paragraph, a conclusion, a statement of plain facts or simply soap-box proselytizing.”
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Rundgren began playing guitar as a teenager, going on to found and front Nazz, the quintessential `60’s psychedelic group. In 1969, he left the band to pursue a solo career, recording his debut offering, Runt. But it was 1972’s seminal Something/Anything?, on which he played all the instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that catapulted Todd into the superstar limelight, prompting the press to unanimously dub him ‘Rock’s New Wunderkind’. It was followed by such landmark LPs as The Hermit of Mink Hollow and A Wizard, A True Star, as well as such hit singles as I Saw The Light, Hello It’s Me, Can We Still Be Friends, and Bang The Drum.
