Harvey Mandel
Harvey Mandel is an American guitarist best known for his work with Canned Heat, as well as with artists like Charlie Musselwhite and John Mayall. Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1945 and raised in Morton Grove, Illinois, Mandel first gained attention with his distinctive guitar work on Charlie Musselwhite's 1966 album Stand Back! Here Comes Charley Musselwhite's Southside Band. Mandel joined Canned Heat in 1969, performing with the band at the legendary Woodstock Festival and contributing to several of their albums, including Future Blues. He later played with John Mayall and formed the band Pure Food and Drug Act. Known for pioneering guitar techniques like two-handed tapping, Mandel has also maintained a successful solo career, releasing numerous albums. In recent years, he rejoined Canned Heat and continues to perform and record music.
