Christian Death
Christian Death is an American gothic rock band widely recognized as a pioneering force in the deathrock and gothic subcultures. Formed in 1979 in Los Angeles by iconic frontman Rozz Williams, the band’s dark, provocative style quickly set them apart from the punk scene of the time. Their debut album, Only Theatre of Pain (1982), became a cornerstone of the gothic rock genre, characterized by its haunting atmospheres, poetic lyrics, and a macabre aesthetic. After Williams departed in 1985, guitarist and vocalist Valor Kand took the helm, leading the band in a more gothic rock direction and continuing to release a series of influential albums. Christian Death’s legacy is defined by their confrontational themes, boundary-pushing artistry, and lasting influence on goth, post-punk, and alternative music scenes worldwide.
