Ministry
Ministry is an iconic American industrial metal band founded in 1981 by Al Jourgensen in Chicago, Illinois. Starting as a synth-pop project, the band transformed into a pioneering force in industrial rock and metal during the late 1980s. Known for their aggressive sound and politically charged lyrics, Ministry gained mainstream success with albums like The Land of Rape and Honey (1988), The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste (1989), and Psalm 69 (1992), the latter achieving platinum status. Over the decades, Ministry has undergone numerous lineup changes, with Jourgensen remaining the driving force behind the band’s evolving style. Despite battles with addiction, lineup shifts, and even multiple announced breakups, Ministry has continued to release hard-hitting albums, including the recent Hopiumforthemasses (2024). With six Grammy nominations and performances at major festivals like Lollapalooza and Wacken Open Air, Ministry’s legacy as a cornerstone of industrial metal remains solid.
