Onyx
Onyx is an American hardcore hip hop group from New York City, formed in 1988 by Fredro Starr, Suavé (Sonny Seeza), and Big DS, with Sticky Fingaz joining in 1991. They are best known for their 1993 platinum hit single “Slam,” which brought the energy of slam dancing into hip-hop. Their debut album, Bacdafucup, achieved platinum status, won Best Rap Album at the Soul Train Music Awards, and is regarded as one of The Source magazine’s 100 Best Rap Albums. Onyx is known for their aggressive style, marked by loud, grimy vocals and high-energy performances. The group has released eight studio albums, three of which reached the Top 25 on the Billboard 200.
