The Damned
The Damned are a pioneering British punk rock band formed in London in 1976, widely credited as one of the first punk bands in the UK to release a single and album, as well as to tour the United States. Their debut single, "New Rose," released in 1976, is often regarded as the first punk rock single in the UK. The band’s early albums, such as Damned Damned Damned (1977) and Machine Gun Etiquette (1979), helped define the punk sound, blending fast, aggressive riffs with dark humor and rebellious energy. Over the years, The Damned evolved their style, incorporating gothic and psychedelic elements, which made them a significant influence in both the punk and goth scenes. Despite numerous lineup changes, the band, led by vocalist Dave Vanian and guitarist Captain Sensible, has maintained a dedicated fanbase and continues to tour and release music, solidifying their status as legends in punk rock history.
