Gary Numan
Gary Numan, born Gary Anthony James Webb on March 8, 1958, is an English musician known as a pioneer of electronic music. Rising to fame as the frontman of Tubeway Army, Numan achieved massive success with his debut solo album, The Pleasure Principle (1979), featuring the hit singles “Are 'Friends' Electric?” and “Cars.” His signature sound, characterized by heavy synthesizer hooks and an androgynous "android" persona, made him a defining figure in the late 1970s and early 1980s new wave movement. Despite the peak of his commercial popularity during this period, Numan has maintained a cult following and continues to influence the electronic music genre. In 2017, he was honored with the Ivor Novello Inspiration Award for his contributions to music.
