Lemmy, Slim Jim & Danny B - Lemmy, Slim Jim & Danny B (CD)

Lemmy is a huge fan of early rock and roll. He loves it in fact. This album reflects his love of the old rockabilly classics he grew up on when he was a kid in England. The tracks are, I think, all remakes, and they are done in Lemmy's traditional gravelly voice, but they are quite good. Danny B Harvey is one of the best rockabilly guitarists around today, and Slim Jim Phantom honed his skills in the Stray Cats back in the early 80s, during the rockabilly revival. All in all the album flows well, and the songs are good choices. While Lemmy's broken voice isn't exactly suited for Roy Orbison-style crooning, he gives a certain toughness to these old standards, and it's obvious he's having a great time playing with his bandmates (this lineup would go by the name The Head Cat and release a couple of new albums, in addition to reissuing most of this one as their debut). It's a fun romp, and my baby boomer father, who doesn't care for metal at all, took a listen and loved it. Give it a whirl if you've ever even just heard of Lemmy, the Stray Cats, Danny B. Harvey or rockabilly in general and I think you'll like it.
