Dwight “Whitey” Pullen - Sunglasses After Dark (LP)
There are the well-known pioneers of that much loved American sound we call Rock N’ Roll music: Gene Vincent, Bill Haley, and of course Elvis Presley. And then there are the pioneers who are not so well known, those shooting stars who burst brightly upon the late ‘50s music scene only to fade unfortunately into obscurity shortly thereafter.
Dwight “Whitey” Pullen was one such figure, a rowdy kid from Alabama who spent his early years touring with Vincent and releasing 7” slabs of pure rockabilly on the Sage & Sand label, including the now revered classic “Sunglasses After Dark.” Pullen died at the tender age of 30, and though no monument stands in his honor at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, his music endures in the hearts and minds of every true music fan!
